Blushers
Many woman have had a hard time deciding what blush to buy and even applying it. Its too bad, because blush is one of the most important steps in makeup application. Many will end up getting blush too close to the lines around their eyes, or like a stripe of color across the cheek. Many choose the wrong blush color, or apply it underneath the cheekbones as if it were contour. There are many opinions on where it should start, where it should end, or how high or low to place it on your cheekbone. So I thought I'd help you learn proper application technique. You can also read the book "The Beauty Bible" for more tips.
To apply powder blush, take a small amount and dust the blush brush off. To find the area to be blushed, place the full end of your brush about one-quarter to one-half inch behind the laugh line. Starting here, brush downward and back toward the center of your ear, being careful not to place any color below the level of the mouth. Applying your blush by brushing down as opposed to back and forth eliminates a stripe effect. The blush area should be about two inches across, with no hard edges. Always use your sponge to soften edges. Blush is for the cheekbones only. So no fluffing on the nose, forehead, hairline or chin. You don't want to look overly pink or bring out red tones for a blotchy look.
If you want to contour, apply the contour color first, then blend the blush on top of and gradually down into the contour color. Use a sponge to blend until the two colors melt together. When done properly, blush and contour add color, depth, and dimension to a face - and that's always attractive.
Note: if your wearing a blush with a blue undertone, make sure you choose a lipstick to match in the same family. Rose blush means rose lipstick; coral blush goes with coral or coral/tan lipstick; soft tan-looking blush goes well with almost any color of lipstick. Your blush does not have to match your outfit, although if you wear vivid clothing colors, your blush should be in the same family.
